Join me on a whistle-stop tour of Bucharest, Romania!
Finding myself with a spare weekend, I was keen to tick something off the bucket list- Bran Castle.
With some cheap Wizzair flights secured, we arrived in Bucharest early afternoon, and headed straight to the Therme Bucharest. This is Europe’s largest spa, and I’d seen great things on social media. It was incredibly busy when we arrived, and took over an hour to get a cocktail at the swim-up bar, but we enjoyed a lovely sunset all the same, and headed back to the apartment for an early night.

The next morning, we were up bright and early for an excursion I will never forget. From Bucharest, we travelled around two hours to Peles Castle, owned by the Romanian Royal family. Peles Castle blew my expectations with its grandeur, and the on-site cafe provided a wonderful view for breakfast.

We don’t around ninety minutes here, including our guided tour and coffee break, and then continued on to Bran.
En route, we were lucky enough to spot brown bears at the side of the road which was an utterly surreal experience.

We then finally laid eyes on Bran Castle, a place I’ve dreamed of visiting my entire life. We walked around the castle and paid extra for the medieval torture exhibit, and spent a few hours taking in the atmosphere.

Our last stop before heading back to Bucharest, was lunch in Brasov. Brasov is a lovely colourful town with quaint buildings and cobbled streets. It felt very homely, and we had a lovely meal of sausage and polenta, followed by papanasi, a traditional Romanian donut.

The drive back to Bucharest took just over two and a half hours, and after a long day, we crashed out in our apartment, ready for a day of sightseeing before our flight home.
